Upcoming Retreats
March 15-17 and May 24-30, 2013
Inisfada Interfaith Zen Center
St. Ignatius Retreat House
251 Searington Rd., Manhasset, NY 11030

"Robert Kennedy is one of the most eloquent exponents of a Catholic Christianity rooted deep in his own lived experience of faith. His wonderfully poetic style speaks of Zen as a way to overcome the human tendency to theorize, by total immersion in a stillness where an intuition of God's immanence can be realized..." (Michael Barnes)

"The group is serious and committed and at the same time has warmth and openness. There is simplicity and a minimum of ceremony yet sufficient structure to support earnest practice." (an Inisfada zen practitioner)

It is "the duty of Christians now to draw from (the) rich heritage of (the East) the elements compatible with their faith in order to enrich Christian thought. "The Church of the future" will judge herself enriched by all that comes from today's engagement with Eastern cultures and will find in this inheritance fresh cues for fruitful dialogue with the cultures which will emerge as humanity moves into the future." (John Paul II, on Faith and Reason).

These silent retreats offer an opportunity to develop a deeper contemplative prayer life, strengthened by the presence of others. Zazen or sitting meditation is the practice of stilling the mind through attentiveness to the breath. Together with stillness of the body, this frees the mind from its ordinary activities of thinking, and speculating.

The retreat is open to persons of all religious and non-religious affiliations; it includes zazen (seated meditation), kinhin (walking meditation), chanting, dharma talks and daisan (one on one interviews with the teachers)and beginners instruction. Cushions and chairs are provided. Easy on and off shoes are recommended.

The retreat begins with dinner at 6:00 p.m. and ends with mid-day lunch on the last day. Sample schedule. Please check with Retreat House for fees. Internet access, gym, and swimming pool (available during summer). Bring warm clothing for winter retreats.

Travel from JFK via Airlink to Jamaica LIRR station and train to Mineola, and then a cab: From La Guardia via cab and from Long Island Railroad Manhasset station via cab. Use Ollie's taxi 516-437-0505 or Plandome taxi 516-627-0900 or classictrans.com for airport pickup. If you are travelling by car from the South on a Friday, it is best to use the Verrazano Bridge and then the Belt Parkway East to the Cross Island Parkway North to the LIE East.

Register directly at inisfada@inisfada.net and send checks payable to St. Ignatius Retreat House to 251 Searingtown Rd., Manhasset, NY 11030. Please include your email address. General inquiries: roconnell8@aol.com.
